The inability to control negative emotions increase the time of healing
The inability to control negative emotions increase the time of healing - to the conclusions reached staff of the State University of Ohio as a result of an experiment involving 98 volunteers.
Researchers apply subject to the standard left arm wounds the same size. Monitoring of healing was held for 8 days. The ability of parties to control their feelings evaluated using tests, questionnaires, which they filled out before the experiment. In addition, the participants to measure levels of «stress hormone» cortisol.
As it turned out, the grumpy people wounds heal much more slowly than those who had a quiet nature. For the most irascible members likelihood that healing takes more than four days, was increased in 4.2 times. The study took into account such factors as the length of error of sleep, physical activity and alcohol consumption.
The form in which the apparent negative emotions - hidden or, conversely, overt aggression towards others - will not affect the speed of recovery processes. According to the authors of the study, slow-healing wounds can be associated with elevated levels of hormone cortisol.
Scientists also note that they have obtained data confirm the results of previous studies. In particular, some time ago, it was found that the rate of recovery of damaged tissue as a result of injuries can affect factors such as family quarrels, or caring for relatives suffering from dementia.
The report on the experiment published in the journal The Brain Behavior and Immunity.
